YouTube will reduce the definition of its videos in Europe to lower the pressure on the NetworkMar 212020
The service insists that the measure will not affect the quality of the user experience.
The YouTube video service, part of the American company Google, will adjust its capabilities in Europe to minimize the pressure that the Internet experiences during the quarantine in several countries on the continent. The decision was announced this Friday, reports Bloomberg, in response to a request from European authorities.
The definition of the videos will be reduced to standard for a period of 30 days for all reproductions in Europe. "We will continue to collaborate with governments of [EU] member countries and network operators to minimize pressure on the system, while also offering a good user experience," the YouTube statement quoted the media as saying.
It is estimated that the time of the use of streaming services grew by 20% with the closure of educational institutions and businesses due to quarantine. Taking it into account, the Netflix platform announced a similar measure saying that "it will reduce traffic on European networks by approximately 25%" for about 30 days.
