The U.S. Department of Agriculture issued a warning to recipients of those packages not to seed their contents.

A resident of the American town of Booneville (Arkansas) who received one of the mysterious packages with seeds from China, decided to plant its contents despite the ban by the US authorities and was surprised by the result obtained, local press reports.

Doyle Crenshawn reported that he had planted the seeds "just to see what would happen." He fertilized every two weeks the plot where he sowed, and after germinating the plants began to grow rapidly. Eventually they blossomed and bore zucchini-like fruits.

Crenshawn planted the seeds before the U.S. Department of Agriculture issued a warning to recipients of those packages not to plant them. The authorities of the North American country feared that the seeds were an invasive weed or that they contained some type of pest that affected the local ecology.

In late July, dozens of residents of the United States, as well as Canada and the United Kingdom, reported receiving packets with seeds from China that they had not ordered. Last week, the Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service identified some of the seeds, and determined that they were plants that do not pose any danger.

According to that agency, the packages could be part of a scam in which a company sends packages to consumers and then writes false positive reviews about the product on behalf of the person who received it. In addition, some of the packages were mislabeled and indicated that they contained jewelry.
