Antique teapot from China that would be worth up to about $ 130,000Sep 122020
The owner did not know that this object that his grandfather brought from the Far East was an 18th century rarity.
A man found an object worth thousands of dollars while cleaning the garage of his home in the county of Derbyshire (England, United Kingdom) during the confinement by the global pandemic of covid-19, reports the British press on September 11.
He always thought that that container that his mother displayed in a display case and belonged to his family for as long as he could remember was a kettle that his grandfather would have brought after serving in the Far East during World War II.
However, he was told by an auction house that the enameled utensil that had spent a decade in a box was made in 18th century imperial China, was used to serve wine and could be sold for a figure that would be around $ 130,000.
The owner, a 51-year-old man who prefers to remain anonymous, always considered it to be a special piece, but never considered it to be of such value because he was unaware that two identical jugs are exhibited in museums in Beijing and Taipei.
