An adult owl was found on Monday among the huge branches of the Rockfeller Center Christmas tree in Manhattan, New York, by one of the workers who helped install the Christmas symbol, reports AP.

The bird, a male, was dehydrated and hungry, but fortunately unharmed otherwise, said Ellen Kalish, director and founder of the Ravensbeard Wildlife Center in Saugerties, New York, where the owl was taken. It is specifically a sharpening owl or northern spruce owl ('Aegolius acadicus'), one of the smallest representatives of the species.

How could it be otherwise, they gave him the name Rockefeller and took him to the vet, who verified with a certificate that he is healthy, Kalish added.

"He's had an unlimited buffet of mice so he's good to go," said Kalish.

The owl is planned to be returned to the wild this weekend.
