Gigantic Gundam inspired combat robotNov 302020
Visitors will be able to enjoy the experience of piloting the 18-meter-high, 25-ton automaton thanks to a simulator with augmented reality.
A full-scale replica of the Mobile Suit manned combat robot from the Gundam animation series was unveiled on Monday in the city of Yokohama (Japan), local media reported.
This gigantic 18-meter-tall, 25-ton copy is capable of walking down a catwalk, kneeling, and moving its head, arms, and fingers.
The engineering work is part of the Gundam Factory recreational complex, created in Yamashita Park, on the shore of Tokyo Bay.
The robot is inside a special structure, equipped in its upper part with an observation platform. The complex also offers an exhibition room that shows how the robot was built and provides information on its internal structure.
The facilities include a pavilion that, with the help of augmented reality technology and images transmitted via 5G networks, simulates the experience of piloting the Mobile Suit in the first person.
The opening of the complex was originally scheduled for the middle of this year but had to be postponed due to the pandemic. Its doors will open to the public on December 18, with entry tickets of between 1,650 and 3,000 yen (between 16 and 32 dollars), depending on the attractions included.
