Kanye West turns to Justice to legally change his nameAug 252021
The musician asks to have his artistic nickname in his document, without middle name or surname.
The American rapper and billionaire Kanye Omari West has appealed to the Justice to legally change his full name to his stage nickname Ye simply, regardless of the middle name and the last name, reports AP.
The petition, which was signed on August 11 and sent to the Superior Court of Los Angeles (California, USA) on Tuesday, alleges "personal reasons" to justify the change.
Local authorities usually approve such requests, except in cases where the name change raises suspicions of fraudulent purposes. Although at the moment the judge in charge has not yet ruled on the matter.
The musician has insisted for years that his name is actually Ye, a name that he also adopted on his social media profiles. In addition, he has titled his studio album released in 2018 in the same way.
Commenting on the subject in interviews, West explained that Ye was a short form of his first name and also a word — an archaic English pronoun — frequently used in the Bible.
In an entry posted on Twitter in 2018, the artist defined himself as "being formally known as Kanye West. I am Ye."
On the other hand, his wife Kim Kardashian West, with whom he is in the process of divorce, has not requested to remove the second part of his surname. Likewise, the four children of the marriage maintain their father's surname.
